Fundraising for physio to aid Joeys' mobility
This is our son Joeys' story and why we have set up a fundraising campaign.
Joey is an extremely happy, sociable 10 year old, who keeps everybody smiling even though he was born with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and Microcephaly which affects his development in all areas. He is also Epileptic but very well controlled and he doesn't let any of these conditions hinder his full enjoyment and zest for life and having lots of fun.
He is non weight-bearing as he has had ongoing problems with both hips and ankles which have led to numerous operations to aid his range of movement and help keep him pain free. He has Physio blocks through the NHS but these are not proving enough to maintain his strength and flexibility.
We have just started having Physio sessions through a private group called Kids Physio Works who specialise in therapy for young children. They tailor his hour long sessions for his personal needs and our aim is to help Joey sit independently through lots of upper core exercises which he tries so hard to achieve when reaching and playing with his toys.
They offer massive support and encouragement with a home exercise programme to help his progress and keep as much strength and flexibility as possible within his own capabilities.
We would love to send Joey every couple of weeks for a session but it is expensive so we are asking for help raising funds towards this therapy to help him reach his full potential.
In March this year I am running my first ever half Marathon along with Joeys' two fantastic aunties to help raise funds towards this therapy to aid Joeys' continuing strength building. This is going to be a massive challenge for me personally but I am determined to help Joey and offer him as much support as I can to make his life as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible.
