Hudson McGeehan

Fundraising to provide specialist therapy

Hudson was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was two. He has always amazed us with his courage, resilience and determination - and has already surpassed so many challenges which we were told may not be possible. We are continuing our fundraising journey which will allow Hudson to have an intensive Physio programme following SDR surgery. This surgery will decrease his spasticity and stiffness. Spastic diplegia (which affects the leg muscles more than the arms) is the most commonly occurring type of cerebral palsy. Nerve fibres running from the muscles back to the spinal cord play a major role in maintaining this muscle stiffness. SDR, by dividing some of these fibres, is very effective at reducing stiffness and spasticity.Hudson will need  to receive intense physiotherapy (not available on the NHS) after the surgery, which over time will enhance his mobility and allow him to walk more ‘flat footed’. It has been recommended that we would need around 15,000 pounds per year (for the first three years) in order for the physiotherapy to have the best possible outcomes. We have already been overwhelmed with love and support. Hudson is a very lucky boy and this will help him on his way to fulfilling his dream of becoming a power ranger! We will keep you updated on his progress throughout his journey and are truly grateful for all your support. Thank you. 7.5% of all donations to Tree of Hope in relation to this appeal will be allocated to the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope to cover our core operating costs. If we raise insufficient funds, or surplus funds, then the funds will be used, if appropriate, to fund support for our child’s needs in accordance with Tree of Hope’s charitable objects.  If in those circumstances we are unable to use all or part of the funds for the benefit of our child in accordance with Tree of Hope’s charitable objectives, then any funds that cannot be used will be transferred to be used for the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope.
