Flat Head Syndrome
What is flat head syndrome?
Flat head syndrome is the umbrella term for a flat head condition that can appear in babies and infants that affects the skull, making the back or side of a baby's head appear flattened.
About
Many babies develop plagiocephaly by sleeping regularly in one position. This condition occurs more often in premature infants whose skulls are especially pliable. Medical terms that describe different types of flat head syndrome are: plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, torticollis, scaphocephaly, craniosynostosis.
How we can help babies flat head syndrome
Beyond repositioning techniques that parents are recommended to try, cranial remoulding helmets to bring about a permanent correction are then an option. Known as TimBandAir, treatments for flat head syndrome are no longer available on the NHS so are fundraised for where required.
