Tree of Hope Launches ‘Bridging the Gap’ Strategy to Support Families with Children’s Healthcare Needs

18 Oct 2024

Children’s charity, Tree of Hope, is excited to launch its new ‘Bridging the Gap’ strategy, aimed at supporting even more families who need to raise funds for therapies, home adaptations, and medical equipment for their children with additional needs.

Key Initiative: ‘Partners in Hope’

A major focus for the next three years is the ‘Partners in Hope’ initiative. Through this program, Tree of Hope will collaborate with partner organizations to establish specialized funds to cover critical needs like therapies, home adaptations, and medical equipment. Over the past three years, the charity has helped families raise over £4 million for their children’s healthcare.

Filling the Gaps in Public Services

Despite available support through public services, families often face gaps when accessing therapies, equipment, and home adaptations. These gaps leave parents struggling to secure the necessary resources for their children. Tree of Hope’s ‘Bridging the Gap’ strategy aims to address these challenges and offer essential financial assistance.

Focus on ‘Hope in the Home’ Campaign

For its first year, the strategy will focus on ‘Hope in the Home’, an initiative designed to help families secure funding for essential home adaptations not covered by public services. The charity will partner with construction and property companies to secure sponsorships and partnerships.

Becky Andrew, CEO of Tree of Hope, explains, “Over the last 10 years, we’ve seen an increase in families needing support, raising close to £1 million for home transformations—from specialized bathrooms to sensory gardens. These adaptations not only provide a safe space for children but also transform the lives of their families.”

Tree of Hope’s ambitious goal is to raise an additional £1 million over the next three years, making these life-changing home adaptations accessible to more families.

How You Can Get Involved

Tree of Hope is offering a variety of partnership opportunities for organizations to contribute to the ‘Hope in the Home’ campaign. Your support can make a direct impact on the lives of children, young people, and their families, ensuring that hope starts at home.

Spotlight: Kit Slessor-Pavely’s Story

Four-year-old Kit Slessor-Pavely, from Pembury, is an inspiring example of a child currently fundraising for essential home renovations through Tree of Hope. After suffering from severe seizures, Kit now has life-changing brain injuries, epilepsy, and partial blindness. His family is raising funds to build a downstairs extension with wheelchair access, a wet room, and a bedroom, which will allow Kit to live comfortably at home.

Kaz Slessor-Pavely, Kit’s mother, shares, “We qualify for some government funding, but it won’t cover the full cost of the extension, which is estimated at £135,000. Tree of Hope has been a great help in our journey.”

Kit and his family are featured in Tree of Hope’s latest video.
