Consett Mum’s Daily Yoga Challenge to Support Daughter with Rare Genetic Condition

In Consett, single mum Kayley Burns, 42, is dedicating herself to a daily yoga challenge throughout November to raise funds for her 14-year-old daughter, Amelie, who has an extremely rare genetic condition called MPPH syndrome. Amelie is one of fewer than 100 documented cases worldwide, and her condition limits her movement significantly. However, thanks to a specialized Innowalk machine, she can now “walk” and enjoy a higher quality of life.

Kayley, who works in adult care, organized a fundraiser in collaboration with her supporters and received a donation from the Variety Club to secure the £20,000 required for the Innowalk. However, the machine requires a new £1,080 warranty to ensure it remains in working order.

“Given all her health issues, Amelie is thriving,” says Kayley. “This is thanks to keeping her mobile over the years – the more she can move, the healthier and happier she is. It’s vital that the Innowalk stays in good condition.”

Fundraising for Amelie’s Ongoing Needs

Amelie requires continuous support to stay mobile, which includes hoists, lifts, and an adapted car. Kayley explains that, since the COVID lockdowns and her transition to remote work, maintaining fundraising contacts has become harder. This is why the yoga challenge is so important to Kayley’s mission to support Amelie.

Kayley is sharing her progress daily on her Facebook page, where followers can witness her commitment and learn more about Amelie’s journey.

Supporting Amelie’s Journey with Tree of Hope

Kayley is receiving support from Tree of Hope, a UK children’s charity that assists families in raising funds for critical medical needs. Tree of Hope’s charity status also provides tax benefits like gift aid, enhancing donations.

Becky Andrew, Tree of Hope CEO, expressed her support: “We wish Kayley all the best with her yoga challenge. Tree of Hope is here to support however we can.”

How You Can Help Amelie Stay Mobile

Amelie’s mobility and health depend on the generous support of donors. Every contribution helps ensure she can access the therapy and equipment she needs to thrive.
