Tree of Hope Raises Awareness About Pediatric Neuropsychiatric Disorders
PANS PANDAS was set up by a group of parents whose children are affected by this condition. We met Vicky Burford, Chair of trustees who introduced our medical committee to inform us of the way these conditions are understood by the medical profession and the general public.
Tree of Hope recently became aware of Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS) after a family reached out with questions about these conditions.
PANS and PANDAS are complex, often misunderstood conditions causing brain inflammation, leading to a range of neuropsychiatric symptoms such as OCD, tics, and severe eating restrictions.
Primarily affecting children, PANS and PANDAS can result in rapid changes in behavior, with symptoms that can be misinterpreted as behavioral issues or signs of poor parenting.
Since meeting Vicky, the chair of PANS PANDAS and we have been invited into their community to try to help families afford the costs associated with expensive treatments and trials.
