Harry’s Hydrocephalus Awareness Trust (Harry’s HAT)

Support for Children with Hydrocephalus

Harry’s Hydrocephalus Awareness Trust (Harry’s HAT) is a UK-based charity founded by the parents and friends of Harry Coates, a child living with hydrocephalus, a condition involving cerebrospinal fluid accumulation in the brain that increases cranial pressure.

With only two invasive treatment options currently available, Harry’s HAT is dedicated to improving outcomes for children diagnosed with hydrocephalus. The most common procedure, a shunt insertion, helps drain excess fluid but has a high risk of blockage, with 50% failing within two years and requiring additional brain surgery.

To address these challenges, Harry’s HAT advocates for advancements in treatment and supports increased awareness of early detection.

Tree of Hope and Harry’s HAT work together to support families who need funding assistance for managing this condition through any means they are unable to access it, to enhance the lives of children with hydrocephalus and provide the funding and support for their care and treatments.
